1. Low Power Supply Design For LED Display Module

First,We need to know that the best working voltage of LED Lamp is about 1.8V-2.8V(Red lamp) and 2.8V-3.8V(Blue and Green lamp). However, the supply voltage provided by the traditional LED Display is much higher than its required working voltage. So it can reduce unnecessary losses after adopting the new-designed power supply.

For the Traditional LED Display, the power supply adopts a single-voltage unified power supply of 5V DC. But the energy-saving power supply is based on a dual-voltage power supply design. RED LED Chip with 2.8V DC power supply,GREEN,BLUE LED Chip with 3.8V DC Power Supply.It means the R, G, B lamp will work under its normal working voltage.

2. Different Design of PCB Board

The Energy-saving LED Display also has its own unique PCB board design, with the energy-saving power supply to achieve accurate voltage distribution. Change a words, the lamps can be swimming at the ideal work environment, the PCB equal the swimming pool and the power supply equal the water. This design can also be called “Common Cathode”.

On the contrary, normal LED Display, we call it “Common Anode”. As it uses a unified power supply design, no matter it need more or less voltage.That’s why the energy-saving led screen also called by Common Cathode Energy-Saving LED Display.

3. Different Design of Driving IC

Another indispensable element is the Driver IC. The innovation of Drive IC is mainly reflected in its low switching voltage and common cathode design, the former can save energy by 5%-8%, the latter can save energy by 20-25%.

Here we take common IC:ICN2037 and energy saving IC:ICN2049 for example.

ICN2049 is a Common Cathode Drive IC designed specifically for energy saving LED display, using 16 channels constant current output same as common IC: ICN2037. But it works at a lower and more stable voltage environment. Making the led screen to save energy effectively.

Energy Saving LED Display Consumption and Brightness

 As shown in the testing of power consumption, the consumption of common led display is about 788KW/H per square, consumption of energy saving led display is about 487KW/H per square. It can really achieve 50% energy saving!

From the testing, the brightness of energy saving led display can reach around 6500 Nits. Same as the common led display. The voltage cut-down work didn’t reduce the brightness, on the contrary, as the unnecessary heating problem solved, the working temperature turns down, which helped to strengthen the brightness performance and the lifetime of the led display.

Calculate as 50sqm led screen ( Daily working time 10h,1KW = USD 0.2)

Traditional P16mm Outdoor LED Display:
Average 0.28KW/sqm
Electricity Cost 1 year:= $0.2x 0.28(Kw/m2) x 50(sqm) x 10(hours/day) x 365(days/year) = $10,220

Low-cost P16mm Outdoor LED Display:
Average: 0.12KW/sqm
Electricity cost 1 year:= $0.2x 0.12(Kw/m2) x 50(sqm) x 10(hours/day) x 365(days/year)= $4,380

The Result: Saving $10,220-4380=$5,840 annually on electricity cost for 50sqm LED Display Screen.
